1. "Tell me about yourself."
Not a warmup โ this is your pitch. 2 minutes: who you are, what you've built, why this company. Prepare this cold.
2. "Tell me about a time you failed."
Interviewers are not looking for humility theater. They want: a real failure, your genuine analysis of what went wrong, and evidence that you changed behavior afterward.
Weak: "I failed to meet a deadline once, but I learned to communicate better." Strong: "In Q2 2024, I underestimated the complexity of a database migration. We missed our launch by 3 weeks. Don't trash the person. Frame as: different working styles, how you found common ground, what you built together.

5. "Tell me about a time you influenced without authority."
Classic leadership question. Think: peer, stakeholder, or executive whose behavior or direction you changed through persuasion, data, or relationship-building.
6. "Why do you want to work here?"
Do real research. Mention specific products, engineering challenges, or company values that genuinely interest you. Generics ("great culture, challenging problems") are automatic interview killers.

Structure: What was unclear, how did you get unstuck, what did you decide to do, what happened.

Pick a real weakness (not a humble brag like "I work too hard"). Explain what you've done to address it. Show progress.

Align with the role. Don't say "I want to be VP" in a company that values ICs. Don't say "I want to stay technical forever" if the role is leadership-track.
